Advanced Open Water builds directly on Open Water with five adventure dives, including two cornerstones, deep (to a recommended 30 metres / 100 feet) and underwater navigation, plus three electives such as night, wreck, drift, or peak-performance buoyancy. There is little classroom work; the focus is in-water experience under instructor guidance.
For most divers this is where confidence really develops and where you sample the specialties you might pursue further. It is the prerequisite for Rescue Diver.

Common questions
- Do I need Advanced before specialties?
- Not always, and some specialties can be taken right after Open Water, but Advanced bundles depth and navigation, which most other courses assume.
